One Pad, Repositioned, With a Mode Switch

On the ZOLL AED Plus and AED Pro, adult and pediatric coverage require two different electrodes; the AED detects which one is connected and adjusts automatically. The AED 3 works differently. CPR Uni-Padz III is the same physical pad for both patient types. For an adult, the pads go in the standard position, upper-right chest and lower-left side. For a child, the same pads are repositioned front and back, and the responder activates Child Mode directly on the AED 3. The pad does not change; the placement and the mode selection do. This is a genuinely different mechanism from the pad-detection approach used on the AED Plus and AED Pro platforms, not just a different name for the same thing.

Installation and Rescue Deployment

Because CPR Uni-Padz III ships pre-connected, replacing an expired set on the AED 3 is a short, mechanical task, and using them correctly in a rescue depends on getting the placement and mode selection right for the patient in front of you.

Check the printed expiration date. Confirm the date on the sealed package before installing or replacing a set. Include this in your monthly AED inspection routine.
Open the AED 3 case and disconnect the old electrode cable. Release the previous pad set from the unit.
Connect the new CPR Uni-Padz III cable. The pre-connected design means there is no separate adapter or intermediate step.
Close the case and confirm the AED 3 completes its self-test. The full-color display will indicate the unit is ready.
During a rescue, determine adult or pediatric placement first. Adult: upper-right chest and lower-left side. Pediatric (8 years or younger, or under 55 lbs): front and back.
Tear open the package and apply the pads per the printed diagrams, matching the graphics shown on the AED 3's full-color display.
For a pediatric rescue, activate Child Mode on the AED 3. You Do Not Need a Separate Pediatric Pad for This Platform ZOLL Pedi-padz II is built for the AED Plus and AED Pro and is not used with the AED 3. Ordering it for an AED 3 program would be unnecessary and would not fit the unit. CPR Uni-Padz III already provides complete pediatric coverage.
