The ZOLL AED Plus OEM 9-inch deep metal surface mount cabinet (part number 8000-0855) is one of two surface-mount cabinet depths offered for the AED Plus. The other is a 7-inch surface mount cabinet. The two depths exist because facilities store the AED Plus in two different ways: some keep the AED in its soft carry case at all times for portability and ready transport, and some remove the carry case for cabinet-only storage. The 9-inch interior is sized specifically for the case-on configuration; the 7-inch interior is sized for case-off storage.
The cabinet is built from sturdy metal with a baked-on white finish, fronted by a clear glass viewing window. The window lets responders verify the AED's rescue-ready indicator at a glance without opening the door which is important because opening the door triggers the audible alarm. The alarm is mechanical: a door-contact switch activates the 9-volt-battery-powered buzzer the moment the cabinet opens, providing both tamper deterrence and rescue notification.
This cabinet model (8000-0855) replaces the discontinued ZOLL 8000-0856. The replacement cabinet carries identical OEM specifications and full ZOLL warranty coverage. The 8000-0855 was designed by ZOLL specifically for the AED Plus stored with its soft carry case. The 17.5" × 17.5" × 9" exterior translates to a usable interior depth of approximately 6.875 inches once the door clearance and alarm assembly are accounted for generous enough to hold the AED Plus in its case plus a spare set of CPR-D-padz electrodes.
Unlike Cardiac Science cabinets (which have brand-specific hook geometry sized to Powerheart AED chassis), the 8000-0855 is more universal it holds AEDs based on physical fit within the interior dimensions rather than chassis-specific mounting hardware. Facilities standardizing on a single cabinet style across mixed-brand AED fleets sometimes select this enclosure for that reason. ZOLL offers four wall-mounting solutions for the AED Plus, each suited to a different deployment priority. The right choice depends on three factors: whether you store the AED in its carry case, how much wall protrusion your corridor allows, and how much tamper-deterrence and visual prominence your program requires.
The 9-inch deep cabinet is the right choice when: (1) you store the AED Plus in its soft carry case rather than bare, (2) your program needs the audible alarm tamper-deterrent and rescue notification, (3) you do not want to cut into the wall for a semi-recessed install, and (4) your installation location can accommodate a 9-inch wall protrusion outside of ADA-regulated corridor walkways.
The 8000-0855 is a surface-mount cabinet it attaches to the existing wall surface through mounting holes in the back plate, with no drywall cutout required. Total install time typically runs 30 to 45 minutes for a single cabinet, once the appropriate wall hardware has been sourced.
U.S. state laws on AED placement, signage, and registration vary. The ZOLL AED Plus 9" Deep Surface Mount Cabinet meets equipment-side requirements for alarmed, publicly visible AED storage in every state. AED registration with local EMS required. Monthly readiness checks must be logged. Signage and AED location notification to building occupants required (Health & Safety Code §1797.196).
AED owners must register with the regional EMS council. Health care facilities and public schools have additional signage and training requirements (Public Health Law §3000-b).
AED owners must notify the local EMS agency of each AED's location. Regular maintenance and physician oversight required (Health & Safety Code §779).
Physical Fitness Facility Medical Emergency Preparedness Act requires AEDs in fitness facilities with trained staff. Public schools (K-12) require AEDs on premises.
AED owners encouraged to register with local EMS. State schools and public buildings have specific placement and training requirements (F.S. §768.1325).
Cardiac Arrest Survival Act provides Good Samaritan protection nationwide. OSHA recommends AED placement in workplaces where cardiac risk or response delay exists. FAA requires AEDs on most commercial aircraft.
