How PRESTAN feedback actually works

Two separate mechanisms, one visual and one audible, which is why students can use them without watching a screen.

Adult, child and infant are different skills

Compression depth, hand position and technique all change with patient size. A program that trains only on adult manikins has not prepared students for a pediatric arrest.

PRESTAN child manikins are smaller and thinner than the adult version with softer facial features. Infant manikins simulate realistic head movement, so students practice opening the airway correctly rather than approximating it.

All three sizes carry the same rate and depth feedback.

Skin tone options and why they matter in training

PRESTAN offers medium and dark skin tones across adult, child and infant manikins, plus Diversity Kits combining tones in a single 4-pack.

Assessment in a real rescue partly depends on appearance, and a student who has only ever practiced on one skin tone has a narrower reference than the population they will actually encounter.

For a class serving a mixed community, a Diversity Kit is the practical choice rather than four identical manikins.

Match your AED trainer to the AED you own

This is the mistake worth avoiding when building a program. AED trainers replicate a specific device: its voice prompts, button layout and pad handling.

Training staff on a ZOLL trainer when the wall cabinet holds a Philips means the muscle memory does not transfer cleanly. Buy the trainer that matches your actual device.

PRESTAN also sells combined packages pairing manikins with AED trainers, which is usually the cheaper route when equipping a program from scratch.

Consumables to budget for

Training equipment has running costs that first-time buyers routinely underestimate. Plan for these alongside the manikins themselves.

Face shields are per student per session. Lung bags need replacing regularly. Training electrode gels lose adhesion after repeated use and are sold in multi-set packs.

Manikins can be cleaned and decontaminated per CDC guidelines between sessions, which matters for any program running back-to-back classes.
