The Philips FRx SMART Pads II (part number 989803139261) are the manufacturer-authorized replacement electrode for the Philips HeartStart FRx. Packaged in a protective plastic case that snaps directly into the FRx's semi-rigid carry case, these are single-use, disposable pads built for fast deployment.
On the HeartStart FRx and FR3, SMART Pads II register as pre-connected, meaning the AED recognizes them as ready the moment the case is opened. These same pads are also technically compatible with the Philips FR2, FR2+, and the professional MRx, XL, XLT, and XL+ monitor-defibrillators, but on those platforms the pads do not register with the same pre-connected behavior. If your primary device is an FR2 or one of the ALS monitor-defibrillators, Philips' own guidance leans toward device-specific electrodes for that platform; call Total AEDs at (855) 286-6384 to confirm the best fit for your exact equipment.
By itself, this pad set is built for adult use. Add the separately sold Philips FRx Infant/Child Key and the same SMART Pads II can be used on pediatric patients under 55 lbs, without needing a second pad set. This is a genuinely different design from the OnSite/Home platform, which uses two entirely separate cartridges (adult and pediatric); on the FRx, the Key does the switching, not the pad.
Every SMART Pads II set ships with at least 12 months of remaining shelf life from date of receipt. These pads carry a minimum 24-month manufacturer shelf life from date of manufacture, and Total AEDs rotates stock to give program managers the longest possible replacement cycle within that window.

No. Never break the foil seal except during an actual rescue. Opening the case to inspect the pads dries out the conductive gel and ruins the set, even if it's never applied to a patient. Check the printed expiration date on the outside of the case instead; there's no need to open it to verify freshness.

The FRx uses a different design from Philips' OnSite/Home platform: instead of a second pediatric-only cartridge, you add the separately sold Infant/Child Key to these same SMART Pads II, converting them to treat pediatric patients under 55 lbs.
