About Kyle Nowack

Kyle Nowack has been involved in lifesaving, CPR, AED, and safety training since he was 15 years old, when he began working as a lifeguard for the Chicago Park District. Throughout high school, Kyle participated in the After School Matters Lifeguarding Training Program, where he built a foundation in water safety, emergency response, rescue skills, and public safety. He also served as captain of his high school swim team.

By his freshman year of college, Kyle had advanced to become both a Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor. He taught Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid classes at his university's recreation center, helping students, staff, and community members learn how to respond confidently during emergencies. This hands-on teaching experience gave Kyle a deep working knowledge of CPR technique, AED operation, emergency action plans, and the gap between training and real-world readiness.

Kyle later founded Certify Chicago, a CPR training school in Niles, Illinois, that provided CPR, AED, First Aid, and safety training to individuals, businesses, schools, and organizations. Through Certify Chicago, Kyle helped organizations understand proper AED placement, staff training requirements, and ongoing maintenance — the operational side of AED ownership that most resellers never touch.

After years in the CPR and AED training industry, Kyle shifted his focus toward building solutions that make AED ownership easier, more reliable, and more compliant. He is now the owner of Total AEDs, helping businesses, schools, churches, nonprofits, fitness centers, property managers, and other organizations purchase AEDs, replacement pads, batteries, accessories, and complete AED program management solutions.

Kyle is also the co-founder of AED Log, a leading AED Program Management software platform that helps organizations track AED inspections, pad and battery expirations, compliance tasks, AED locations, incidents, and ongoing maintenance. His combined background — as a lifeguard, instructor, CPR training business owner, AED provider, and software founder — gives him a unique understanding of both the training side and the compliance side of AED ownership.

Active Certifications

Kyle maintains active instructor-level certifications from the two most recognized lifesaving organizations in the United States:

American Heart Association BLS Instructor

Authorized to teach Basic Life Support courses to healthcare providers, first responders, and the public. The AHA BLS credential covers high-quality CPR, AED use, choking relief, and team-based resuscitation.

American Red Cross BLS Instructor Trainer

Authorized not just to teach BLS, but to train and certify other BLS Instructors. The Instructor Trainer credential is held by a small percentage of Red Cross instructors and reflects advanced teaching experience.

What Kyle Does at Total AEDs

Every product page at Total AEDs is reviewed against Kyle's hands-on knowledge of AED placement, compatibility, maintenance, and compliance. Kyle's role spans four areas:

AED Placement Guidance

Helps facilities choose where to install AEDs to meet the AHA's 3-minute retrieval rule, OSHA workplace safety guidelines, and state-specific PAD laws.

Brand & Model Compatibility

Advises on which pads, batteries, brackets, and cabinets fit specific AED models — preventing the wrong-fit returns that plague the AED accessory market.

Training Program Design

Drawing on years as a CPR/AED Instructor and Certify Chicago founder, Kyle helps organizations design training programs that match facility risk and staff turnover.

Compliance & Maintenance Tracking

Through AED Log, Kyle helps customers move beyond paper-log inspections to automated tracking of pad/battery expirations, monthly checks, and incident documentation.

Kyle's Mission

Kyle's work is centered around one mission: making AED ownership simple, compliant, and accessible so more organizations are prepared when a cardiac emergency happens. Sudden cardiac arrest claims more than 350,000 lives outside hospitals in the United States each year, and survival drops 7 to 10 percent for every minute without defibrillation. The gap between owning an AED and being ready to use one is where Kyle focuses his work — through better products, better training, and better tracking.
