Product Overview

The Defibtech Lifeline VIEW changed the public-access AED category when it launched as the first automated external defibrillator with a built-in full-color interactive video display. Where every other AED on the market relies on voice prompts, LED indicators, or static pictograms, the Lifeline VIEW plays an actual motion-video tutorial that walks the rescuer through every action: confirming responsiveness, calling 911, placing pads, performing CPR with a metronome-paced compression guide, and delivering the shock. The video is paired with synchronized voice prompts and full text overlays so the rescuer can hear, see, and read the instructions simultaneously.

Why a video screen matters

Sudden cardiac arrest happens to bystanders. In 70 percent of cases, the rescuer is an untrained family member, coworker, or stranger. The Lifeline VIEW commands a premium over the standard Lifeline AED, but its 4-year battery cycle is shorter than the standard Lifeline's 5-year (or 7-year High-Capacity upgrade). Across a 10-year deployment, the VIEW requires more frequent battery replacement but typically delivers better rescue outcomes when responders are untrained, justifying the higher consumables cost in lay-rescuer environments.

Installation and Placement

The Defibtech Lifeline VIEW is designed for surface, cabinet, or bracket mounting in a high-visibility, high-traffic location. At under 3 pounds it is one of the lightest public-access AEDs available, making it suitable for mobile applications (fleet vehicles, aircraft, marine) as well as fixed wall mounting. Placement decisions drive survival outcomes more than any AED feature: every minute of delay between collapse and defibrillation reduces survival probability by approximately 10 percent.

Position for 90-second access. Place the AED so any responder in the building can reach it, deploy it on the patient, and deliver the first shock within three minutes. This typically means one AED per 60 to 90 seconds of round-trip walking distance.
Mount the handle at ADA-compliant height. Under the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, the operable handle should sit no higher than 48 inches above the finished floor for unobstructed forward reach, or 54 inches for side reach. The VIEW's low 3-lb weight works with virtually any cabinet in our AED wall cabinets selection.
Protect the video screen. The color screen is the VIEW's defining feature and a long-term reliability factor. Mount in a cabinet or shaded location to avoid direct sun exposure that can degrade LCD displays over multi-year deployments. Indoor or shaded outdoor placement is strongly recommended.
Avoid corridor protrusion violations. Objects mounted between 27 and 80 inches above the finished floor cannot protrude more than 4 inches into walkways. In narrow corridors, use semi-recessed or recessed cabinets rather than surface-mounted units.
Post AED signage. Mount an ISO 7010 E010 AED sign (white heart and lightning bolt on green) directly above or beside the cabinet, plus a perpendicular flag sign at 84 to 96 inches above the floor for distance visibility.
Register and track the device. Register the AED with the manufacturer (required to activate the full 8-year warranty), your local EMS agency (required in many states), and an AED program management platform such as Total AEDs Program Management for automated battery, pad, and inspection tracking.

Safety and Considerations

Prescription Required AEDs are FDA-classified Class III medical devices and require a physician's prescription for sale and deployment in the United States. Lifeline and Lifeline VIEW Pads Are Not Interchangeable The Defibtech adult pads designed for the standard Lifeline AED cannot be used on the Lifeline VIEW, and vice versa. When ordering replacement pads, confirm the model number on your AED matches the pad part number on the pouch. Mixing pad types between models can prevent the AED from delivering a shock.
Pediatric Use Requires Defibtech VIEW Pediatric Pads The VIEW auto-detects pediatric pads when connected and switches to a reduced energy level appropriate for children under 8 years of age or weighing less than 55 pounds. Pediatric pads are not included in the standard package and must be ordered separately.
Pad and Battery Shelf Life Adult pads carry a 2-year shelf life from manufacture date. The Long-Life battery is rated for 4 years standby with a 4-year warranty. The VIEW's on-device tracking shows real-time expiration status on the touch screen, which is more reliable than manual logbook tracking.
Indoor or Sheltered Outdoor Use IP55 protects against dust ingress and water jets from any direction, but the AED is not rated for submersion or sustained outdoor exposure. The color LCD screen also benefits from being protected from prolonged direct sunlight. Install indoors, in a protected outdoor cabinet, or in a temperature-controlled vehicle compartment.
