Defibtech AEDs

Defibtech Lifeline AEDs are the only defibrillators in the world with a built-in full-color video display showing real-time rescue instructions, the Lifeline VIEW model. They are also the only AEDs offering an industry-leading 7-year battery option that delivers up to 300 shocks on a single battery. Total AEDs carries the full Defibtech lineup: the workhorse Lifeline AED semi-automatic, the Lifeline AUTO fully automatic for hesitation-free lay rescue, and the flagship Lifeline VIEW with its 4.3-inch active matrix LCD that shows step-by-step rescue video to the bystander. Every Defibtech AED is housed in a rugged high-impact ABS plastic case engineered for the bumps and drops of school athletic fields, fire and EMS vehicles, factory floors, and home installations. Each unit ships with new pads, the optional 5 or 7-year battery, the required medical prescription, and the manufacturer warranty. Free standard shipping is available on orders $149+ within the contiguous U.S.

Three features no other AED brand offers

Full-color video display, 7-year battery, and dual English/Spanish prompts standard on every model.

Shop Defibtech AEDs

The Defibtech Lifeline line is built around three engineering choices that no competing AED offers. If any of these matter for your environment, Defibtech is probably the right brand.

Full-color video display (Lifeline VIEW only)

The only AED on the market with a built-in 4.3-inch LCD screen playing live rescue video showing pad placement, CPR depth and rate, and "stand clear" cues. For lay rescuers who freeze under voice prompts alone, watching is faster than listening.

7-year battery option

The longest battery in the AED industry, rated for up to 300 shocks or 16 hours of operation. One battery replacement instead of two over the device's working life, dramatically lowering total cost of ownership for multi-AED fleets.

Dual-language voice prompts (standard)

English and Spanish voice prompts toggled directly on the device, the simplest dual-language solution in the AED category. Critical for schools, churches, restaurants, hotels, factories, and healthcare clinics serving Spanish-speaking communities.

How to choose between Lifeline AED, Lifeline AUTO, and Lifeline VIEW

All three models share the same 4-year pad life, biphasic shock waveform, dual-language prompts, ABS chassis, and self-test schedule. The differences come down to two questions: how the shock is delivered, and whether you want a video display.

Lifeline AEDSemi-Automatic

After analysis, voice prompts instruct the rescuer to press the orange shock button. Rescuer keeps final control over shock delivery. Most affordable Defibtech model.

  • Best for lightly-trained responders
  • School nurses, athletic trainers, corporate safety teams
  • Fire and EMS first-responder vehicles
  • Lowest price point in the Defibtech line
Lifeline AUTOFully Automatic

Same chassis, same analysis, same shock energy. When a shock is advised, the AUTO announces a verbal countdown and delivers the shock automatically, no button press required.

  • Removes the hesitation moment for lay rescuers
  • Recommended for home, churches, retail
  • Any environment where the first responder is likely untrained
  • Best for home and family AED programs
Lifeline VIEWVideo Display

Flagship Defibtech AED. Semi-automatic shock delivery plus a 4.3-inch active-matrix LCD with full-motion video instructions for pad placement, CPR depth, and visual rescue cues.

  • Maximum lay-rescuer confidence
  • Large public venues, sports facilities, hotels
  • Places of worship and corporate offices serving the general public
  • Noisy environments where voice prompts get drowned out

Quick decision guide

Trained responders (EMS, athletic trainers):Lifeline AED (semi-automatic, lowest cost)
Untrained lay rescuers, public access:Lifeline AUTO (fully automatic, removes hesitation)

Defibtech AEDs by use case

Different environments call for different Lifeline models. Common buyer profiles across the full lineup.

Schools and athletic programs

Lifeline AED and VIEW popular for rugged ABS housing, long pad and battery life, and (on the VIEW) visual rescue instructions that work even when noisy gymnasiums drown out voice prompts. Pediatric pads sold separately for elementary and preschool deployments.

Factories, industrial, and manufacturing

High-impact ABS housing engineered for dust, vibration, and accidental impact. The 7-year battery reduces maintenance overhead for multi-AED fleets across large floor plans. Dual-language prompts serve diverse industrial workforces.

Home and family

Lifeline AUTO (fully automatic) is the recommended Defibtech for home use. Removes rescuer hesitation when the responder is a panicked spouse or family member. The 7-year battery means almost no attention needed between consumable replacements.

First responders, fire, and EMS

Rugged ABS chassis and impact resistance make the Lifeline AED a common choice for fire and EMS first-responder vehicles. Semi-automatic configuration gives trained responders final control over shock delivery, the preferred mode for professional use.

Churches and public access

Lifeline VIEW popular in churches and large venues because the video display works for older congregations and lay-rescuer volunteers who may not be confident with voice prompts alone. Ask about the Defibtech Church Value Package with cabinet, signage, and rescue kit bundled.

Mobile and outdoor programs

For mobile responders, parks programs, marine and lakeside facilities, and outdoor athletic events, pair any Defibtech AED with a hard-shell waterproof carry case (body-fluid-resistant foam, ABS plastic shell) for full IP-rated protection.

Defibtech battery, pad, and maintenance schedule

Pad replacement

Defibtech defibrillation pads have a 4-year shelf life from manufacture, double the typical 2-year life of competing AEDs. Replace before the printed expiration date or immediately after any rescue deployment. Pediatric pads follow the same 4-year cycle.

Battery replacement

  • 5-year standard: ~125 shocks or 8 hours of operation
  • 7-year extended: up to 300 shocks or 16 hours (industry longest)
  • High-capacity 7-year battery costs ~$50 to $75 more but eliminates one full replacement cycle over the AED's working life

Self-test schedule

Defibtech AEDs run automatic self-tests daily, weekly, and monthly, checking the battery, internal circuitry, and pad connection. Steady green LED means rescue-ready. Red indicator or audible chirp means attention is needed.

AED lifespan and warranty

The Lifeline AED, AUTO, and VIEW carry a 5-year manufacturer warranty on the device. With consumables replaced on schedule, most Defibtech AEDs deliver 8 to 10 years of reliable service.

Frequently asked questions about Defibtech AEDs

Q

If the unit chirps or shows a red light, how quickly can I get technical support in the U.S.?

Total AEDs provides U.S.-based phone and email support during business hours, typically with a one-business-hour response time. Most red light alerts are caused by expired pads, expired battery, or a recent self-test failure, all resolvable by the AED owner with replacement consumables. For warranty service or device replacement, Defibtech operates support out of Guilford, Connecticut. Call (855) 286-6384 or email [email protected] to start a support ticket.

Q

Can this AED be used on both adults and children without separate expensive keys or pads?

The Defibtech Lifeline AED, AUTO, and VIEW require separate pediatric pads for victims under 8 years old or under 55 lbs. There is no reusable pediatric key on this brand (unlike the Philips HeartStart FRx Infant/Child Key). For environments serving both adults and children, keep one set of adult pads and one set of pediatric pads with each AED.

Q

Is the voice guidance loud enough to be heard in a noisy factory environment?

Defibtech voice prompts run at standard public-access volume. In genuinely loud environments (factory floors, stadiums, gyms with active classes), the Lifeline VIEW's video display is a meaningful advantage because the rescuer can follow visual instructions even when ambient noise drowns out audio. For non-VIEW models in loud environments, pair the AED with a wall cabinet that includes both an audible alarm and a strobe light for visual notification.

Q

Is there an indoor wall cabinet included, or must that be purchased separately?

Wall cabinets are sold separately. Every Defibtech AED ships with the device, pads, battery, prescription, and manual. Browse our AED Wall Cabinets category for surface-mount, semi-recessed, and recessed cabinets sized for Defibtech units, including alarmed and strobe-equipped models.

Q

How long do Defibtech Lifeline AED batteries last?

Two options. The 5-year standard battery delivers roughly 125 shocks or 8 hours of operation. The 7-year extended-life battery delivers up to 300 shocks or 16 hours of operation, the longest battery in the AED industry. Both are covered by Defibtech's manufacturer warranty during their service life.

Q

Are Defibtech AEDs FDA approved?

Yes. The Defibtech Lifeline AED, Lifeline AUTO, and Lifeline VIEW have all received FDA Premarket Approval (PMA), the highest regulatory clearance level for medical devices. Defibtech is a U.S.-based manufacturer headquartered in Guilford, Connecticut.

Q

Does the Defibtech require a prescription to purchase?

Yes. All Defibtech Lifeline models require a physician's prescription in most U.S. states. Total AEDs includes the required medical prescription with every Defibtech order at no extra charge.

Q

How much does a Defibtech AED cost?

Defibtech pricing on Total AEDs runs from $1,523 (Lifeline AED) to $2,086 (Lifeline VIEW). Refurbished Defibtech AEDs are also available at 30 to 50% savings off new prices.

Q

What's the difference between Defibtech and other AED brands?

Three things unique to Defibtech: full-color video display (Lifeline VIEW only, the only AED on the market with this feature), 7-year extended-life battery (industry's longest), and dual English/Spanish voice prompts standard on every unit without a separate upgrade.

Q

Can I see the Defibtech rescue events later for medical-director review?

Yes. Defibtech AEDs record every rescue (ECG trace, shock log, time stamps, and on the VIEW, the full event audio and video) to internal memory. Data downloads to a computer via the included data card or USB connection for medical-director review and AED program documentation.
