The Cardiac Science Recessed Mount AED Cabinet with Alarm and Strobe Light (MPN 50-00400-30) is the most ADA-friendly cabinet in the Cardiac Science Powerheart family. Built from stainless steel with a baked-on white finish, the cabinet sits inside the wall with only 0.9 inches of protrusion making the cabinet visually unobtrusive while keeping the AED instantly accessible.
Fully-recessed installation means the entire cabinet body sits inside the wall cavity, with only the perimeter trim and clear acrylic door visible from the corridor. The result is a clean architectural appearance suitable for hotel lobbies, executive offices, healthcare facilities, and other spaces where surface-mount or semi-recessed cabinets would feel intrusive. The 0.9-inch protrusion sits well under the ADA 4-inch maximum protrusion limit for objects in walkways making this the corridor-friendly choice when wall depth allows.
Like the other variants in the Cardiac Science family, this cabinet is security-enabled: the door-activated alarm can be hard-wired into your building's existing security system so the door-open event triggers a notification at your security desk or monitoring station. The keyed switch on the alarm assembly lets authorized staff disable the alarm for scheduled maintenance, training drills, or pad replacement without setting off the building system.
The 50-00400-30 cabinet is designed for the Cardiac Science Powerheart AED line. The integrated hook system accommodates both the G3 and G5 with or without their soft carry cases.
The cabinet has two integrated hooks inside. The Powerheart G3 hangs on both hooks for two-point support recommended configuration. The G5 hangs on a single hook designed for its handle geometry. Hooks keep the AED stable inside the cabinet so it doesn't shift during transport or accidental door bumps.
Cardiac Science offers the same alarm + strobe cabinet body in three mount styles. The right choice depends on how much wall cavity depth you have, how visually clean you need the install to look, and how much protrusion the corridor can accept.
Fully-recessed installation requires cutting a deep opening in the wall sized for the cabinet's full body. The perimeter trim then overlaps the wall surface the only part of the cabinet visible from the corridor is the trim and the clear acrylic door. Before cutting, confirm the wall has 6 inches of clear cavity depth behind the drywall.
Always confirm the exact rough-opening size from the installation diagram supplied with the cabinet before cutting drywall. A standard 2x4 stud wall (3.5-inch cavity) is NOT deep enough for this fully-recessed cabinet — you need a 2x6 framed wall, an interior partition with deeper studs, or an existing wall cavity sized for HVAC, electrical, or plumbing rough-ins.
The alarm assembly includes terminals for hard-wiring into a building's security system. This connection routes the door-open event to your central monitoring station or security panel, so staff are notified the moment the cabinet opens — not just people within earshot. Wiring is a job for a qualified security technician or facilities electrician; check the alarm assembly instructions for terminal layout and supported relay types.
U.S. state laws on AED placement, signage, and registration vary. The Cardiac Science Recessed Mount AED Cabinet meets equipment-side requirements for alarmed, publicly visible AED storage in every state. Where you mount it, how you register it, and how you log inspections is governed by your state. Higher-regulation states are summarized below.
AED registration with local EMS required. Monthly readiness checks must be logged. Signage and AED location notification to building occupants required (Health & Safety Code §1797.196).
AED owners must register with the regional EMS council. Health care facilities and public schools have additional signage and training requirements (Public Health Law §3000-b).
AED owners must notify the local EMS agency of each AED's location. Regular maintenance and physician oversight required (Health & Safety Code §779).
Physical Fitness Facility Medical Emergency Preparedness Act requires AEDs in fitness facilities with trained staff. Public schools (K-12) require AEDs on premises.
AED owners encouraged to register with local EMS. State schools and public buildings have specific placement and training requirements (F.S. §768.1325).
Cardiac Arrest Survival Act provides Good Samaritan protection nationwide. OSHA recommends AED placement in workplaces where cardiac risk or response delay exists. FAA requires AEDs on most commercial aircraft.
