The Powerheart G5 AED Trainer is engineered to look, sound, and operate exactly like the clinical Powerheart G5 defibrillator, so your responders can practice rescue technique on the same form factor and voice prompt sequence they will encounter if they ever deploy the real device. Includes an infrared wireless remote control for instructor scenario management, three pre-programmed rescue scenarios covering both shockable and non-shockable rhythms, configurable semi-automatic or fully-automatic operation modes, and multi-language voice prompt support.
The Cardiac Science Powerheart G5 AED Trainer is the dedicated training simulator for the clinical Powerheart G5 AED. It is manufactured by Cardiac Science, the AED brand acquired by ZOLL Medical Corporation in 2019. The trainer is purpose-built for CPR and AED instructors who teach AHA Heartsaver, BLS, ACLS, and similar programs, plus workplace responder programs, school staff training, fire and EMS recruit instruction, and any setting where students need realistic hands-on AED practice without the risk of an actual shock.
The G5 Trainer ships with an included infrared wireless remote control that lets the instructor switch between scenarios, pause mid-rescue for teaching moments, and resume on demand. Three pre-programmed rescue scenarios cover the major rhythms students will encounter on the clinical AED: shockable rhythms (ventricular fibrillation, pulseless ventricular tachycardia) and non-shockable rhythms. The remote design contrasts with newer contact-sensor trainers like the ZOLL AED 3 Trainer and gives the instructor direct one-press control over scenario flow.
The trainer body, button layout, voice prompts, and step sequence are identical to the production Powerheart G5. Students who train on this unit will see the same RescueCoach voice guidance and step pacing on the real device. Both semi-automatic (rescuer-presses-shock-button) and fully-automatic (auto-shock-delivery) configurations are supported, so instructors can train students on whichever G5 variant their organization deploys.
The trainer ships with a Language Configuration CD and User's Guide that allows the instructor to load voice prompt language packs covering Spanish, French, German, and other major languages. This trainer package does not include a CPR manikin (purchase a Prestan, Laerdal, or similar manikin from our CPR Manikins selection). It does not include the clinical Powerheart G5 defibrillator or clinical iCPR pads; the trainer cannot deliver shocks or measure compression depth and is not a substitute for a real AED. Pediatric training pads are typically sold separately if your program needs them.
The single most important question for any AED trainer buyer: do you need a training simulator, or do you need a real defibrillator for an actual rescue program? The two products look identical and share the model name, but they serve completely different purposes. Buying the wrong one creates either a useless classroom prop or, worse, a fake device deployed in a real emergency.
Choose the Powerheart G5 Trainer (this product) when: you run CPR/AED classes that teach the Powerheart G5 platform, you operate a training company, your workplace deploys clinical G5s and you want responders to drill on the matching trainer, or you need a multi-language trainer for international or bilingual responder programs.

Many AED programs buy both clinical and trainer. The clinical G5 lives in the wall cabinet ready for an emergency, and the matching trainer lives in the training room so responders practice on the identical interface they will see when it counts. Pads are NOT interchangeable between the two devices.
The Powerheart G5 Trainer drops into an existing CPR/AED training program with minimal instructor overhead. Initial setup takes approximately 10 minutes for language configuration; routine class-to-class setup takes under 60 seconds.
The trainer simulates a sudden cardiac arrest rescue scenario using the same form factor, voice prompts, button layout, and step sequence that students would encounter on the real Powerheart G5 AED. When the trainee opens the lid, the trainer powers on and begins the voice-prompt sequence. The trainee attaches the reusable training pads to a CPR manikin and performs the rescue: deliver compressions paced by the trainer's metronome, then press the (simulated) shock button when prompted. The trainer does NOT deliver any electric shock; it only plays the voice prompt and visual indicator. The instructor uses the included wireless infrared remote to select which of the three pre-programmed scenarios to run and to pause and resume the rescue for teaching moments.
The trainer provides voice prompts and a metronome that paces compressions at the AHA-recommended rate of 100 to 120 per minute. It does NOT measure compression depth and cannot provide real-time corrective prompts ("Push Harder," "Push Faster") during practice. The clinical Powerheart G5 paired with iCPR Intellisense pads DOES provide real-time depth and rate feedback in an actual rescue, but the trainer's reusable training pads contain no sensors. If real-time depth feedback during training is a priority, the ZOLL AED 3 Trainer with Real CPR Help is currently the only AED trainer offering this capability.
No, and you should not attempt this. The clinical iCPR or standard Intellisense electrode pads used on the real Powerheart G5 are single-use sterile medical consumables with a 2-year shelf life that cost meaningful money each. Connecting them to the trainer would waste a clinical-grade pad set on a non-clinical device and may not function correctly because the trainer is not designed to read the pad sensor data. The trainer ships with dedicated reusable training pads designed specifically for repeated classroom use. Keep clinical pads stored with your clinical AED and training pads stored with your trainer; never mix the two.

The voice prompts are designed to be identical in wording, pacing, and tone to the clinical Powerheart G5. Cardiac Science engineered the trainer specifically to give students true rehearsal: the audio prompts, button layout, status indicators, and step sequence on the trainer mirror what they will hear and see if they ever deploy the real device. Yes, the adult training pads are designed to be reusable across many classroom sessions. The exact reapplication count depends on how carefully students handle the pads and what manikin surface they are applied to. Hard plastic manikin chests with smooth surfaces are easiest on the adhesive; soft-skin manikins can be harsher. Most instructors report many class-cycles per pair before the adhesive degrades to the point where pads slip off the manikin. When that happens, replace the pads from AED Trainer Accessories rather than trying to repair them with tape (which interferes with the trainer's expected pad placement).
The trainer itself uses a dedicated training power source supplied with the unit (not the same as the clinical Powerheart G5's Intellisense lithium battery, which is a costly proprietary medical-grade pack). The infrared wireless remote uses standard retail batteries, typically AAA alkalines. Refer to the included user's manual for exact battery specifications for both the trainer and the remote, and stock spares in advance for high-volume programs. The trainer's reliance on standard battery sources (rather than clinical batteries) is a deliberate cost-of-ownership advantage over the clinical device.
The wireless infrared remote is INCLUDED in the standard Powerheart G5 Trainer package, not sold separately. The remote is required to switch between the three pre-programmed rescue scenarios and to pause or resume scenarios during instruction. If your remote is lost or damaged, contact Total AEDs at (855) 286-6384 for a replacement; do NOT operate the trainer without a remote, since you lose scenario control and pause capability. For comparison, the newer ZOLL AED 3 Trainer uses contact sensors in the training pads instead of a remote, but the Powerheart G5 Trainer's design predates that approach and remote-based control remains effective for classroom use.
Unlike clinical AEDs, AED trainers are not regulated by the FDA and are not subject to state Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) program rules. They are educational devices that can be purchased and deployed freely. However, the training program you run with this trainer should align with the same standards-setting bodies that govern professional CPR/AED instruction.
AHA Heartsaver, BLS, and ACLS programs require AED training units that mirror the clinical devices students will encounter.
