Four G5 adult pads, and only two can save a life

The Powerheart G5 has four adult electrode products whose names all begin the same way. Two are rescue pads, two are training pads, and the difference is one word in the middle of the title.

Training pads cannot deliver a shock

The two training products contain no defibrillation capability. A Powerheart G5 fitted with training electrodes will not shock a patient in an emergency.

They belong only on a training device or a G5 used for classroom demonstration. Check for the word TRAINING before you order.

The silent downgrade to watch for

Both rescue pads work as a defibrillator. Only the iCPR variant provides CPR feedback.

If you bought the G5 for its depth, rate and recoil coaching, replacing with standard pads removes that capability with no warning from the device. Match like for like.

Rescue pads for the Powerheart G5

Order by patient type first, then by whether you need CPR feedback.

Adult, with CPR feedback

Intellisense CPR measures compression depth, rate and chest recoil, correcting the rescuer in real time. Recoil is the measurement most competing systems skip.

Order Powerheart G5 iCPR feedback pads.

Adult, standard

Full defibrillation without CPR coaching. Correct if your G5 was not configured for feedback, or if feedback is not required for your program.

Order Powerheart G5 standard adult pads.

Pediatric

For patients under 8 years old or under 55 lbs. Adult pads deliver too much energy for a small child, so keep a pediatric set on hand if your location serves children.

Order Powerheart G5 pediatric pads.

Check the printed expiration date on the pouch rather than your purchase date, and replace immediately after any rescue where pads were applied.

Batteries and data

The G5 Intellisense battery carries a 4-year guarantee and works with the Rescue Ready self-test system, which checks the battery daily, weekly and monthly.

After a deployment, the G5 stores 90 minutes of rescue data retrievable over USB. Order the Powerheart G5 USB data cable.

Carry cases and mounting

Three carrying options depending on how the device travels. The backpack is the only one that also fits legacy G3 units.

Legacy Powerheart G3 parts

The Powerheart G3 is discontinued for new sale, replaced by the G5. Parts remain available for existing units, but these are not compatible with a G5.

G3 and G5 accessories are not interchangeable. If you own a G5, none of the G3 items below will fit your device.

For existing G3 units, order the Powerheart G3 PRO lithium battery, the Powerheart G3 PRO ECG kit, the Powerheart G3 communications cable, or the Powerheart G3 Plus toolkit.

Training equipment

None of these can be used in a rescue

Training electrodes and the simulator contain no defibrillation capability. They are for classroom instruction and demonstration only, never for a device in service.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between G5 standard pads and CPR feedback pads?

Both defibrillate. Only the iCPR variant provides Intellisense CPR feedback measuring compression depth, rate and chest recoil.

If your G5 currently coaches CPR and you replace with standard pads, you lose that capability with no alert from the device.

Can I use training pads on a real Powerheart G5?

No, never. Training electrodes contain no defibrillation capability. A G5 fitted with training pads cannot deliver a shock in an emergency.

They are for training devices and classroom demonstration only.

What does Intellisense CPR measure?

Compression depth, rate and chest recoil, with real-time corrective prompts. Recoil measurement is uncommon; most competing systems measure rate alone or rate plus depth.

Will Powerheart G3 accessories fit a G5?

No. The G3 is a discontinued earlier platform and its pads, batteries and cables are not compatible with the G5.

The backpack is the one exception in this category, listed as fitting both G3 and G5 units.

How often does the Powerheart G5 test its battery?

Rescue Ready checks the battery, hardware, software and pads daily, partially charges the high-voltage electronics weekly, and runs a full charge test monthly.

The Intellisense battery carries a 4-year guarantee.

When do I need pediatric pads?

For patients under 8 years old or under 55 lbs. Adult pads deliver too much energy for a small child.

If children are present at your location, keep a pediatric set on hand alongside your adult pads.

Is Cardiac Science still supported?

Yes. Cardiac Science became a ZOLL brand in 2019, and Powerheart devices are sold and supported under ZOLL ownership.
